Faculty of Education's Logo

The CMU logo depicts an elephant, framed by two teak flowers, lifting flaming torch beneath an inscription written in the ancient Pali language : "Attanam Damayanti Pandita" or “The Wise Cultivate Themselves.”

The Logo Explained

Nationally, the elephant is considered an auspicious animal, and it is the symbol of northern Thailand. The elephant’s forward posture signifies “continuous development”, which CMU embraces as an institutional goal and as an educational objective for its students. The elephant’s torch symbolizes the radiance of learning and wisdom, while the torch’s eight beams represent the University’s eight original faculties. Finally, the teak flowers are symbols of abundance and prosperity, just as the teak tree itself, found throughout the woodlands of north Thailand, is one of the region’s most valuable natural resources.
